Resumo:
Created in 1988, the State of Tocantins has a critical historiography on political movements that have existed over the centuries that narrate the desire for emancipation in the North of Goiás. Despite encouraging initiatives related to the study and recording of its history, there is a lack of studies that reflect the history of emancipation from the perspective of the press, and the role of journalism as a protagonist in the emancipationist political process. Analyzing the participation of Ecos do Tocantins, a newspaper published from 1951 to 1961, and its narrative production in favor of the autonomy of Tocantins is the main gear of this research, which through the methods, the Analysis of Journalistic Narrative and the analysis of Journalistic Genres, investigates and highlights the role of the vehicle as a defender of the political emancipation of municipalities in the North of Goiás, and a protagonist in the dissemination of ideas, needs and news about the division of Goiás, giving voice to the “autonomist narrative” of Tocantins. By analyzing and categorizing the texts published in the newspaper, the results showed that Ecos do Tocantins was actually born predestined to contribute to the developmental banner of a territory abandoned to its own fate, as well as to the ideas of struggle for the division of Goiás and the creation of Tocantins.
