Resumo:
This article aims to present a literature review related to the importance of learning to read and the act of reading, as will as its contribution to the intellectual and social development of the subject, addressing possible issues that make the subject lose interest in reading. This article also aims to present a brief analysis of the reader profile of the academics of the Letters course at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT)/Câmpus Araguaína – Cimba Unit. Therefore, this article was supported by some theorists, among them, Freire (2003), Soares (2009), Solé (1998), Kleiman (2001), Koch (2018), Barbosa (2008), and Silva (2016), each author allows us to build relevant notes on the development process in learning to read. In the brief analysis of the reader profile of university students in the Literature course, it was possible to compare the profiles between students from different periods. According to the bibliographic readings and the application of the questionnaire, it was observed that the profiles of academics of letters change as the periods go by, the reading levels rise.
