This Course Completion Work (TCC) had as general objective understand the teaching and learning process of newcomers to higher education in perception of IEAA/UFAM students. And went in search of an answer to the following problem: What is the perception of students of the Pedagogy course at UFAM/IEAA in the process of initial training on the transition from high school to higher education? The participants there were four students, all from the Pedagogy course offered at the Instituto de Educação Agriculture and Environment (IEAA) from the first to the third period. The search was outlined by the qualitative approach, characterizing itself as a narrative type in which the data were collected through narrative interviews. The data revealed that the students presented several difficulties, as it was perceived by them that when they arrived at the university faced a reality totally different from the one they had in teaching medium, due to the lack of a solid base of studies in the previous stage. Suffered some consequences in this process, as a better understanding of texts and basis for writing; personal adaptation and academic, with the forms of teaching, conciliation with the time for studies. Also, challenges related to handling digital technologies, lack of internet. However, there were satisfactory forms of learning. It is worth mentioning that this study makes us reflect about the importance of acquiring good preparation for another level of teaching and learning, which is the superior. Faced with difficulties and challenges, the students were not intimidated to look for other ways to learn the contents of the disciplines and adapt to the new reality, as well as overcoming what appeared in the meantime, such as moving to another city, the challenges of studies during the COVID-19 pandemic, reconciling study and family. we hope this work raises the need for further research that brings university students as a focus on other biases and objectives.
