Resumo:
Mental health is an area of public health that presents as subject of study the subject and their relations built with reality. After the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform that resulted in the reformulation of the care model, the challenges mainly affect the mental health health professionals who daily have the task of expanding and consolidating this paradigm shift. This study aims to understand the performance of mental health professionals in the Psychosocial Care Centers of the municipality of Palmas / TO, as main operative points within the network. The study was developed with the use of qualitative methodology based in the fields of human sciences and health, using Content Analysis as referentialmethodological. To collect data, individual interviews were conducted with nine mental health professionals. This research made it possible to identify the conceptions that professionals have been building on the concept of mental health. In this sense, we can see that there are professionals who can understand the reorganization of the psychosocial model. However, there are still health practices developed based on the logic of the verticalization of knowledge, based on fragmented and hierarchical relationships. The importance that mental health professionals attribute to the model of community and territorial assistance is clear. However, the obstacles within the team exist, such as: overwork, reduced staff. There is disagreement between theory and everyday practice. The professionals can understand and visualize the importance of the community care model, but the presence of different assists and lack of cohesion among the multiprofessional team, professionals resistant to participating in group activities, strict modes of thinking within the service make the practice very far from what is proposed in the Mental Health Policy.
