Resumo:
The city of Porto Nacional is located in the central region of the state of Tocantins, 60 km away from Palmas, the state capital. The historic center of Porto Nacional was listed by the Institute of Artistic and Cultural Heritage (IPHAN) in November 2008. This historical center, in the course of its history has undergone significant transformations caused by demolitions and insertion of new buildings that influenced in its original ambience. The tipping of the historic center of Porto Nacional is the starting point for the study demonstrated in this work. In this sense, the main objective of this research was to investigate how the historical center evidenced as cultural patrimony, suffered and suffers permanencies and modifications after the tipping. In this research, we chose the place category of geography to discuss the relationship of the residents of the historic center of Porto Nacional with the place listed. In the understanding that the place is revealed in cultural heritage because it represents an aspect of local history, understood as an affective bond of belonging, as lived space and product of social relations. For the accomplishment of this work, in addition to bibliographical and documentary research, we applied questionnaires and held conversations with the residents of the place listed. These conversations are designated by us as possible. This denomination is due to the fact that these talks do not have the character of interviews, with scheduling and direct questions about the subject studied. The methodological support used was phenomenology. At the end of this study we verified that it is necessary to understand the role of social actors involved in the process of preserving the historical center of Porto NacionalTO.
