The micro and small enterprises of the transformation industry (MPEITs) are considered
instruments that stimulate the economic and social development, having an important role in
the Brazilian municipalities. Thus, in the state of Maranhão there are many MPEITs,
highlighting the municipality of Imperatriz, where the same boost local development. The
objective of this research was to analyze the management of MPEITs and the elements that
contribute influencing the development of the municipality of Imperatriz-MA. The
methodology used in this research presents descriptive and exploratory characteristics, with a
quantitative approach, performed through the application of questionnaires to 65
owners/managers the MPEITs. The sample consisted of 65 MPEITs, which are part of the
results, where bakeries represent 49.24% of the establishments surveyed. Another relevant data
regarding these industries was that 50.76% have more than ten years in the market, exceeding
the estimates of these industries. The total of the industries surveyed generated 424 formal and
informal jobs for the municipality of Imperatriz. These industries presented that 83.08% of their
administrators are the owners themselves. The research data revealed that management
efficiency is compromised by poor management knowledge and low schooling of owners /
managers and employees with low qualifications, beyond as the lack of public interest in the
incentive to these industries. It is concluded that the management MPEITs is practiced form
intuitively by their owners/managers. Even So, it is notorious that these industries have
contributed to the social and economic development of the municipality of Imperatriz,
especially in the generation of employment and income, collection of taxes, social responsibility
through eventual financial donations and products, in addition to supplying products to meet
the needs of the Market. These industries have fulfilled with their role in the development.
