At the beaches, data were collected on the predation of nests and individuals, and on environmental variables (soil compaction, beach elevation and total beach area). Among the factors that may influence the choice of spawning site, we obtained significant results in the beach height variable for P. expansa and in soil compaction for P. unifilis. The predation of individuals, whether natural or anthropic, is great for both species, since species are appreciated for human consumption in many of the localities that occur, however, it seems to be more expressive for P. unifilis (75.7%), whose nests are shallower, and therefore more vulnerable to predators, some sampled beaches have higher rates of predation than others. P. expansa has it less in its adulthood, because its size hampers predators, still, anthropic predation is present at all ages for these animals, which have an annual life cycle and slow population growth. The environmental perception of the students revealed a lack of general knowledge about the species of this study, as well as ecological aspects, which is worrying, since the species are consumed, mainly by the riverside population. Further studies are needed to deeply understand the aspects that may influence the nest choice behavior, and such information may be valuable for the conservation of these chelonians. Investing in projects that involve the community in the management and protection of these animals is also necessary to avoid their population decline. O presente estudo buscou avaliar os aspectos que estão envolvidos na nidificação dos ninhos e a predação dos ninhos e indivíduos de Podocnemis expansa e Podocnemis unifilis, bem como compreender a percepção ambiental de alunos de uma escola pública de Lagoa da Confusão – TO sobre as duas espécies mencionadas. Nas praias foram coletados dados de predação de ninhos e indivíduos, e de variáveis ambientais (compactação do solo, elevação da praia e área total da praia). Entre os fatores que podem influenciar na escolha do local da desova, obtivemos resultados significativos na variável altura da praia para P. expansa e na compactação do solo para P. unifilis. A predação de indivíduos, seja natural ou antrópica é grande para as duas espécies, visto que as espécies são apreciadas para consumo humano em muitas das localidades que ocorrem, porém parece ser mais expressiva para P. unifilis (75,7%), cujos ninhos são mais rasos, e, portanto, mais vulneráveis aos predadores, algumas praias amostradas apresentam maiores taxas de predação que outras. P. expansa é menos predada na fase adulta, pois o seu tamanho dificulta a ação de predadores, mas a predação antrópica é presente em todas as idades para esses animais, que possuem ciclo de vida anual e crescimento populacional lento. A percepção ambiental dos estudantes revelou certo desconhecimento de aspectos gerais sobre as espécies deste estudo, bem como de aspectos ecológicos, o que é preocupante, visto que as espécies são consumidas, principalmente pela população de ribeirinha. Mais estudos são necessários para compreender profundamente os aspectos que possam influenciar no comportamento de escolha do ninho, e essas informações podem ser valiosas para a conservação destes quelônios.
