Resumo:
This work discusses traces of female empowerment in José de Alencar's eighteenth-century work Senhora. The objective of this study is to analyze the theme of female empowerment present in the work. To this end, the bibliographic research uses authors such as: Sardenberg (2006), Aguiar (2011) and Pinto (2010), who discuss in their works on this female theme. The work is the result of a bibliographic research, associated with the analysis of literary narrative. The study procedures of which included the reading of the work Senhora and representative theoretical texts; mapping of excerpts in the novel that include aspects of female empower- ment and analysis of the literary text. After the mapping of excerpts from the work, the select- ed fragments are analyzed from what theorist’s dialogue as traces of female empowerment. The result of this research points to issues of female empowerment, even if timidly at a time when women's rights were minimal, and their social emancipation unlikely. The socio- historical and cultural context of José de Alencar's work, built bases in 1875 to manage the countless conquests that women have today.
