Resumo:
This paper focus on agro-industry location in Mato Grosso state, Brazil. The objective was to determine the most appropriate places to install new soybean crushing plants by using an integer mathematical programming model based on location theory. The model structure incorporates variables such as: grain transportation costs to the agro industries; local grain production; building costs for new plants and for assembling old ones. The main results show that, with new crushing plants, the transportation costs would be reduced and the grain quantities in cropland areas between the plants would be increased to optimal levels. The most appropriate locals selected by the mathematical model for the new plants would be the Alto Taquari and Tangará da Serra regions where there are large crop farms and logistic facilities to the commercialization of soybean carryovers to other Brazilian states.
