From its pages were raised the questioning and analysis and the problems of the present work. It is of particular interest the way the paper tackled the themes of modernization of the Goiás upstate before and during the period of the Civil-military dictatorship of 1964, more specifically the year 1960, 1967-68 and 1983-85. The concern of the journal discourse about the insertion of the North of Goiás in the list of regions that experienced modernization points out that the improvements were not only an end in itself,but also how these projects would improve the reality of the Goiás North. The structure of defense, modernization and progress constituted part of the routine speech of the journal for construction of roads, the naval potential, thenregarded as a second brazilian coast; the population growth; the possibility of emancipation in the North or the integration of Goias South Goiás and de Goiás with Brazil. Such a speech was used largely to the early 20th century, reworked as a powerful tool in the Brazilian political scene andin the Civil-military dictatorship of 1964. O jornal Norte de Goyaz, objeto desta pesquisa, publicado quinzenalmente durante o século XX, foi fundado em 22 de setembro de 1905, na cidade de Porto Nacional então norte do Estado de Goiás, por Francisco Ayres da Silva, médico e integrante da elite portuense. A partir de suas páginas foram levantados os questionamentos e análises de onde decorrem as problemáticas do presente trabalho. Analisando a maneira como o jornal abordou os temas da modernização da região norte goiana antes e durante à Ditadura Civil-Militar de 1964, mais especificamente do ano de 1960, 1967-68 e 1983-85. A preocupação frequente no discurso do periódico acerca da inserção do norte de Goiás no rol das regiões que vivenciaram a modernização aponta que os melhoramentos não eram apenas um fim em si mesmo, mas sim como projetariam Porto Nacional para além da realidade do norte goiano. A defesa da modernização e do progresso constituiu parte do discurso estruturante do periódico perpassando pela defesa da construção de estradas, a exploração do potencial naval da região considerada como segunda costa brasileira; o crescimento demográfico; a possibilidade de emancipação do norte goiano ou a integração desta com o sul de Goiás e de Goiás com o Brasil.
