Resumo:
Childhood is marked by the growth of children's development, and playing is one of the inherent activities that effectively contributes to the development of the physical, emotional and social aspects of these subjects. Children can go through episodes of illness and need hospitalization, a fact that can generate trauma, since they see themselves in a different and frightening environment, that is, a new routine, distant from the family environment and they may be subjected to painful procedures. . Thus, the general objective of this dissertation was to describe the process of planning and implementing an extension project for a Higher Education Institution to perform hospital recreation activities. The methodology used in the research was a qualitative approach through action research, data were collected through the focus group conducted via web conferencing due to the Coronavirus pandemic. To analyze the collected data, Discursive Textual Analysis was used. Data collection took place in October 2020 with 10 academics who met the inclusion criteria of the research. As products derived from the dissertation, 3 articles were made, the first one entitled “Nurses' performance in hospital recreation: an integrative review”, in which a state of the art research was carried out on the theme of nursing along with hospital recreation. The second manuscript, under the title “Conceptions of hospital leisure and recreation: the perspective of nursing students participating in an extension project”, we identified the concepts of leisure and hospital recreation of nursing students who participate in this extension project, concluding that participants associate the concept of leisure with distraction, fun, relaxation and well-being and who perceive hospital recreation as playful activities that can be systematized and developed as an intervention by the nursing team. In the third article, “Nurses of joy: discussions based on the structuring of an extension project to develop hospital recreation activities”, we present the discussions arising from the structuring of an extension project with the objective of developing children's hospital recreation activities that refer to importance of humanized care, hospital recreation as nursing care and extension activities in the training of nurses. Thus, we believe that through this dissertation it was possible to structure an extension project, highlighting the relationship between teaching and social responsibility. In this sense, the institutionalization of this, which can be associated with the discipline of Health Care for Children and Neonates of the institution participating in the research, responds to the requirements of Brazilian legislation regarding the inclusion of extension activities in the curriculum of undergraduate courses, providing the expansion knowledge and practice of nursing students, contributing to the permanent education of professionals working in the hospital that will receive the project and promoting a greater use of hospital recreation as a nursing intervention.
