The systematization of the extension experience brought here is a way to contribute in the academic field with the expansion of references of territorial ordering in traditional communities having the principle of popular participation, while advancing to the pre-project phase is intended to give back in a practical way and the plans developed with the population are applicable in order to contribute to the demarcation of the territory – constantly threatened by the agribusiness belt that is intensifying in its surroundings – and to help in the sustainable use of resources. For this purpose, participatory workshops were carried out with the community, searches in the Raios de Sol project archives, visits, and research in related bibliographies. It is noteworthy that the proposal phase is worked in a participatory and horizontal perspective, with a view to economic and social emancipation, in addition to appropriation and preservation of the territory, understanding the community as the protagonist in decisions about their living space. Este trabalho apresenta a experiência de participação popular na organização do território da comunidade Quilombola Barra da Aroeira – localizada no estado do Tocantins - no período de 2017 - 2019, realizada por meio de uma ação de extensão promovida pelo Projeto Raios de Sol, e avança até o ante projeto de ordenamento territorial da comunidade, com disposição das diretrizes e espacialização das propostas construídas a partir da educação popular. A sistematização da experiência de extensão aqui trazida é uma forma de contribuir no campo acadêmico com a ampliação de referências de ordenamento territorial em comunidades tradicionais tendo o princípio da participação popular, enquanto avançar até a fase de ante projeto tem o intuito de devolver de maneira prática e aplicável os planos desenvolvidos com a população de maneira a contribuir com a demarcação do território – constantemente ameaçada pelo cinturão do agronegócio que se intensifica em seu entorno – e auxiliar no uso sustentável dos recursos. Para tanto foram realizadas oficinas participativas com a comunidade, buscas nos arquivos de levantamento do projeto Raios de Sol, visitas, além de pesquisas em bibliografias afins.
