Resumo:
The objective of this article is to research the difficulties faced by academics in the Pedagogy course at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) in understanding scientific texts. The study was based on authors who discuss this theme: Silva (2009), Yamaguchy and Furtado (2018), Genchini (2006), Freire (1989), Bakhtin (2004) among others. The qualitative methodology was used and the research was Federal University of Tocantins, Arraias. The selected subjects were the academics of the 2nd period of the pedagogy course, for the reason that they are new students in the course and because they have been in the course for more than one period, consequently more than 6 (six) months in contact with the academic scientific texts. The questionnaire was applied to 15 (fifteen) students, however, only 10 (ten) proposed to answer the questions. The main results achieved in the research: the lack of familiarity with the words used in scientific texts, the lack habit of reading. Thus, the lack of reading habits in students' daily lives and the lack of access to public libraries make it even more difficult to read and understand scientific texts. Demonstrated, that the reading, interpretation and understanding of the texts must first of all be a reading of the world, present in the texts and contexts of the students.
