Resumo:
Soils that suffer flooding or waterlogging are a problem that can be found in several Brazilian regions with livestock activity. Flooding can cause serious damage if not properly treated, because pastures that are in situations where there is stress from excess water can have their development capacity and longevity reduced. For this reason, it has become increasingly important to understand how this type of soil and forage plants behave under this condition. Even with few studies focused on this problem in Brazil, there are still strategies present to obtain a satisfactory result in the area. Therefore, understanding the type of soil, its characteristics, and knowing which species of grass to use in order to achieve satisfactory results in livestock raising becomes an activity of extreme importance, that is, each species or variety of forage has its specific physiological needs in order to obtain productivity. Because of this, there was a need to study possibilities of how to mitigate the losses in soils that are subject to this problem, presenting some strategies, such as soil fertilization and also the choice of grasses that are resistant to flooding of the soil, seeking to assist in the time of decision making within the property.
