Musculoskeletal diseases are diseases that affect the joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons,
and some of these diseases are diagnosed in young age groups, causing a concern with the
evolution throughout life. The objective was to estimate the prevalence of musculoskeletal
diseases in elderly participants at the University of Maturity and to relate it to sociodemographic
variables and health conditions. This is a quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach,
carried out with 27 elderly people from the University of Maturity in the city of Palmas-TO.
We used an interview with a pre-established form for data collection that took place between
April and May 2018. Among the elderly, 63% had musculoskeletal diseases, with a prevalence
of women (70.6%), aged between 70 and 79 years (47 %), with schooling higher than 4 years
(82%), who uses multiple drugs and are independent for ABVDs and IADLs (although the latter
has been compromised). The presence of musculoskeletal diseases was mainly due to
physiological changes associated with health conditions, decreased performance and extrinsic
factors. |
