Resumo:
Babassu (Attalea spciosa) is a plant native to Brazil, spread throughout most of the interior of Brazil, concentrating its main occurrence in a vast area in the north and northeast of the country. Aiming at the sustainable use of the babassu epicarp, which is an agro-industrial residue, this work aimed to apply pyrolysis to obtain ecochar, in order to use it as a porous material for adsorption of pollutants in aqueous media. The pyrolysis process was applied under specific conditions of temperature, heating rate and residence time. Biochar (ecochar) underwent a physical activation process, with the purpose of increasing the surface area of the charcoal. Later, it was used in adsorption tests with methylene blue dye and tartrazine in aqueous solutions. The results moderate good removal coefficients for methylene blue 99.6% (m/m) and low tartarzine removal capacity 47.6% (m/m) in comparison.
