n recent years, we have experienced outbreaks of Dengue (DENV), Zika (ZIKV), and
Chikungunya (CHIKV) viruses. The State of Tocantins, which is part of the Legal Amazon,
witnessed the largest epidemic of viral diseases to date. This study aimed to determine the
diversity of the three main arboviruses in serum of 180 adult patients (70% women and 30%)
admitted to the Hospital Regional de Gurupi in the southern region of Tocantins, a place that
serves indigenous populations. After completing the Free and Applied Consent Term was
used the immunoglobulin test quickly in Dual Path Platform® (Kit TR DPP® ZDCGM / IgG
- Manguinhos) to simultaneously investigate specific immunoglobulin M (IgM) and G (IgG)
against DENV, ZIKV, and CHIKV. Additionally, an RT-qPCR for ZIKV was performed.
IgG1 results (86.6/180) were positive for DENV at the time of life. Tests for ZIKV detect IgG
in 47.7% (86/180) of patients. For CHIKV, 3.3% (6/80) of patients had IgG against the virus.
In addition, 48.3% (87/180) presented simultaneously against DENV and ZIKV. Regarding
the detection of IgM patients, 9 were positive for DENV, 6 for ZIKV, and 6 for CHIKV.
Thus, the results indicate that DENV infection is the most common, followed by ZIKV. Co-
infections cases of DENV and ZIKV can be due to a cross-reaction. Thus, the samples,
serologically positive for ZIKV (58.5/86) were submitted to ZIKV RT-qPCR tests, being 20%
(10/50) positive. In the detection of DENV and ZIKV cross-reaction, the ZIKV RNA was
detected, emphasizing the applicability of the test to patients suspected of arboviruses. To
medical patients, it is very important for clinical practice, as many had their medical
treatments performed for DENV, when in fact they may be infected by another arbovirus. |
