Resumo:
Considering that the disorderly growth of cities and actions caused by man generate destruction of existing natural resources, the natural environments in which venomous and poisonous animals usually live start to change and they start to live in the peridomestic environment, taking into account the considerable increase in accident risks, as well as the many myths and legends about these animals, we can see the importance of the school environment informing the students about this theme. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the perceptions of 7th grade student elementary school from the State School Professora Silvandira Sousa Lima, in the city of Araguaína-TO, about the theme “poisonous and venomous animals” regarding biology, behavior, identification, and accident prevention. The study is qualitative-quantitative and was developed with students. A semi-structured questionnaire with open and closed questions was used for the research. After analyzing the results, a total of 78 students participated. The results revealed that the students understand the theme “poisonous and venomous animals”, but it was noticed that there are still doubts and gaps in knowledge to be filled in relation to specific content such as the correct classification and conceptualization of what differentiates these animals within the scientific knowledge. Thus, form the data of this research, it was concluded that it was possible to observe that there is a deficit regarding the previous concepts of venomous and poisonous animals in elementary school students. Thus, it is clear that issues such as the identification and classification of animals as poisonous or venomous, environmental degradation, biodiversity, preservation and conservation of species for the ecosystem, as well as the medical importance in the production of drugs and accident prevention, including first aid and demystification of myths about these animals, are fundamental contents and need to be addressed in schools in order to offer a quality education on the subject.
