Resumo:
The challenges in the teaching and learning process in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) have interfered in the development of students of Basic Education in Tocantins. Overcoming obstacles present inside and outside the classroom is a major factor in the academic life of those directly involved in the process. This research presents an investigation with a quantitative approach, motivated by the concern to understand the personal challenges faced by students and that influence the teaching and learning process in Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Thus, we have a question for this issue "What are the main personal challenges faced by students in the 1st grade classes of EJA?”. Thus, the general objective of this research is to identify the personal challenges faced by students who study at the EJA of the (Francisco Máximo de Sousa State School) in Araguaína -TO. The methodology adopted is the Case Study and to obtain the information, we applied a diagnostic questionnaire composed of thirteen questions. The research of the results gives us evidences that these challenges have been hold the student development.
