This study seeks to understand how social media influence Brazilian politics. More
specifically, it intends to observe the impacts of social networks, especially Twitter, on
domestic and foreign policies during the first two years of the Jair Bolsonaro
government (2019-2020). The research will be divided into five parts: bibliographic
survey, collection of posts titled tweets; initial reading; categorization and data
analysis. The analyzes focus, above all, on the publications of the current Brazilian
president Jair Bolsonaro, as well as the former Foreign Minister, Ernesto Araújo, and
the Special Advisor for International Affairs, Filipe Martins. In this sense, qualitative
and quantitative methods will be used to better understand the subjects dealt with in
the given period. The survey was conducted from October 21, 2020 to December 2,
2020 to collect tweets for the period from January 1, 2019 to December 2, 2020. For
the collection of these posts, the social media applications Netlytic and Twitonomy
were used. The research was limited to the following categories: Relations with the
USA and ideological spectra right, left, communism. In addition to relations with China
and the subsequent criticism, Amazon and the environment; COVID 19 and its impacts
on the economy, society and politics. From the perspective of interdependence theory,
this study showed the use of the media as a power tool in order to influence the policies
of countries. As well as presented, that its misuse has consequences for the image of
politicians. |
