This research has as its main objective a study on the territories of the ribeirinhos
dwellers in Babaçulândia, northern Tocantins, aiming at an analysis of the places and
territory of the riverside dwellers. We propose as an objective to map the ribeirinhos
communities in the municipality and identify the various representations of the
ribeirinhos being. One way of doing this research was through the Participatory Rural
Diagnosis – DRP, through a qualitative research, with interviews, description of places
and photographs. This research is justified by its social and economic relevance,
considering that the ribeirinho dwellers of these regions have suffered and are still
experiencing the direct and indirect impacts arising from the construction of the Estreito
HPP lake. During the period 2018 and 2019, we carried out visits to fields in the city of
Babaçulândia, Tocantins, such interviews enabled the research, and the information
collected in this period added to the existing ones constituted an important data
framework for this Final Paper. The results point to an important instrument in the
search for recognition of the territory used by riverside dwellers. These results direct
the research to different groups of riverside dwellers, which are characterized according
to their dependence relationship with the river (lake), namely: populations of farmers,
townspeople (riverside), and riverine dwellers living in areas outside the lake shores of
the Estreito HPP. The main focus was to analyze what places are for these populations,
what their identities and places of ownership and identity are, and to understand how
the Ilha Verde community supported itself after the removal of its old places on the
banks of the river. Tocantins because of the Estreito HPP. The desired reading was
always that of the territory as a set of places and itineraries by Bonnemaison (2012)
and in this, understanding the geosymbols |
