This research has as its main objective a study on the territories of the ribeirinhos dwellers in Babaçulândia, northern Tocantins, aiming at an analysis of the places and territory of the riverside dwellers. We propose as an objective to map the ribeirinhos communities in the municipality and identify the various representations of the ribeirinhos being. One way of doing this research was through the Participatory Rural Diagnosis – DRP, through a qualitative research, with interviews, description of places and photographs. This research is justified by its social and economic relevance, considering that the ribeirinho dwellers of these regions have suffered and are still experiencing the direct and indirect impacts arising from the construction of the Estreito HPP lake. During the period 2018 and 2019, we carried out visits to fields in the city of Babaçulândia, Tocantins, such interviews enabled the research, and the information collected in this period added to the existing ones constituted an important data framework for this Final Paper. The results point to an important instrument in the search for recognition of the territory used by riverside dwellers. These results direct the research to different groups of riverside dwellers, which are characterized according to their dependence relationship with the river (lake), namely: populations of farmers, townspeople (riverside), and riverine dwellers living in areas outside the lake shores of the Estreito HPP. The main focus was to analyze what places are for these populations, what their identities and places of ownership and identity are, and to understand how the Ilha Verde community supported itself after the removal of its old places on the banks of the river.
