The present work aims to highlight all of Comissão Pastoral da Terra’s (CPT)
creation journey over decades, searching from its roots until its work nowadays
focusing in Araguaia-Tocantins’s unit, located in Araguaina-TO. The Comissão
Pastoral da Terra works directly and coherently in the damages occurred in
Brazilian countryside and takes part at the Catholic church especially in the
liberation theology wing. Consequently, it was necessary to discuss the chaotic
scenario where the Brazilian rural area is, narrating the inequalities and injustices
assigned by the money owners and the State. The research had a wide
bibliographic review on the exposed themes and a visit to the headquarter of CPT
in Araguaia-TO. It was analyzed local monographs and great author’s works that
talked about the theme. The Notebook of Rural Conflicts published annually by
CPT was fundamental to obtain data about the conflicts, disputes and slave labor
in rural areas. Therefore, this work seeks to clarify all the CPT’s situation and its
coordinators’ job, pursuing to highlight Araguaia-Tocantins unit in its practice
territory, embracing the nearby towns and all the Bico do Papagaio. |
