This final paper has the objective to verify how the woman is showed in the book of poems
"A womb is the size of a fist", by Angélica Freitas (2012). For this reason, is necessary to
understand the historical facts based to gender relations, because it is a fundamental way to
comprehension the varied representations of women in Freitas' poetry. Thus, was made a
bibliographical review metodologically. Was choosen to theoretically based our study in the
following authors: Rago (2014), Perrot (1988) and Gancho (1989). In this way, from our
critical readings, the Brazilian poet Angélica Freitas helped us to construct a new form to
think the woman, exalted through the poetic discourse, as a form of resistance to the
traditional representations of women, understanding the woman is a construction.
