Resumo:
The present work aims to investigate the trajectory of newspapers in the north of Goiás that have been ignored by the history of the Goiás press and have not yet been fully contemplated by the history studies of Tocantins, in a time frame from 1891 to 1988, which refers to the beginning from press activity in the region to the creation of the State of Tocantins, assuming that the creation of the State has changed the paradigm of regional press development, giving rise to a new cycle or cycles and ending others. Taking the press as a privileged stage for conflicting social relations mediated by diverse interests that involve the appearance and disappearance of publications. Understanding the history of journalism as a history of communication systems in constant transformation, related to technological innovations that optimize production and distribution processes and create new possibilities for interaction with the public, give rise to new means as a result of social, economic, political and cultural aspects that can be observed during cycles that succeed in the midst of ruptures and continuities. The study aims to understand the influence of the printed media in the transformations of the northern region of Goiás that would later become the State of Tocantins. For this purpose, two general objectives were defined: to know the newspapers in the north of Goiás and to understand the role they played in the formation of regional identity, enabling the formation of the scope of the history of the Tocantins press. Conceptualizing newspapers as a means of mass communication, of a complex nature that has the function of building people's reality (DINES, 1977; GOMIS, 1991) and a newspaper in the north of Goiás as a periodically edited newspaper or not, but that has the region as the focus of your messages. (ANJOS, 2017, BUCAR, 2018). It follows the methodology of content analysis based on the creation of categories, such as typology, production, circulation, circulation, advertising, illustration, photography, regional coverage, opinion and collaboration, through which the trajectory of northern newspapers can be traced. de Goiás based on Bardim, (2009), Sodré (1983), Burke, (1992) and Ginzburg (2006). The results show that newspapers published in the region were born in an environment of clear opposition between North and South and used this dichotomy to build their own identity. Taking identity in this work as a process of social construction, which corresponds to the social definition of the group and which allows it to be socially situated (CUCHE, 1999). The study also reveals that newspapers played the role of spokespeople for the region and as such, diffusers of the region's identity narratives and representations that strengthened the idea of autonomy that became reality with the promulgation of the 1988 Constitution. This work is inspired by in the concept of invented tradition, by Hobsbawm (1984) and contributes to the formation of the historiography of the Tocantins press as a construct in permanent transformation and that enriches the history of the press in Brazil.
