The groups were organized according to age ranges of "60 to 70 years" and "above 70 years." The participants underwent assessments of: Cognition, Functional Capacity - using the tests "Chair Stand" (CS), "Forearm Flexion" (FF), "2.44m Walk and Sit" (WWS), "Reach Behind Back" (RBB), "Sit and Reach" (SR), "6-Minute Walk" (6MW), and Simple Reaction Time. Results: A positive and significant association was found in women between functional capacity variables (FF x CS; r = 0.636; p<0.001) and inverse associations between variables (WWS x CS; r = -0.488; p<0.01) and (WWS x FF; r = - 0.390; p<0.05). In men, an inverse and significant association was found only in the variables (WWS x FF; r = -0.857; p<0.05). Women in the age range of 60 to 70 years showed better performance in cognition (25.47 ± 2.06 vs. 23.08 ± 4.33 points; p<0.05). Conclusions: No significant associations were found between cognition and reaction time in older adults. The levels of cognition in women showed differences, indicating that age appears to have an impact on this variable. Future research that expands the geographical and population scope is recommended. Objetivo: verificar a correlação entre a capacidade funcional, o tempo de reação e a cognição, bem como comparar as variáveis nas diferentes faixas do envelhecimento em idosos. Materiais e Métodos: o estudo teve caráter transversal, correlacional e comparativo. Participaram do estudo idosos acima de 60 anos, de ambos os sexos. Os grupos foram organizados pelas faixas etárias de “60 a 70 anos” e “acima de 70 anos”. Os participantes foram submetidos à avaliações de: Cognição, Capacidade Funcional - com os testes “Levantar e sentar da cadeira” (LSC), “Flexão de antebraço” (FA), “Levantar, caminhar 2,44m e sentar” (LCS), “Alcançar atrás das costas” (AAC), “Sentar e alcançar” (SA), “Caminhar 6 minutos” (C6m) e Tempo de Reação simples. Resultados: Foi verificada associação positiva e significativa nas mulheres em variáveis da capacidade funcional (FA x LSC; r = 0,636; p<0,001) e inversas nas variáveis (LCS x LSC; r = -0,488; p<0,01) e (LCS x FA; r=-0,390; p<0,05). Nos homens, verificou-se associação inversa e significativa apenas nas variáveis (LCS x FA; r = -0,857; p<0,05). As mulheres da faixa etária de 60 a 70 anos apresentaram melhor desempenho na cognição (25,47 ± 2,06 vs. 23,08 ± 4,33 pontos; p<0,05). Considerações finais: Não foram verificadas associações significativas entre a cognição e o tempo de reação nos idosos. Os níveis de cognição das mulheres apresentaram diferenças, indicando que a idade parece ter impacto nesta variável.
