The experiment had the objective of studying different forms of intensification of the
rearing, using Mombasa grass silage in the feeding of these animals. The treatments
were: T1- Mombasa grass silage + 1.2 kg concentrate, T2- Mombasa grass silage +
0.6 kg concentrate and T3- grass + Mombasa grass silage + 0.6 kg concentrate.
Sixteen nellore calfs were used, with ten months of age and average body weight at
the beginning of the experiment of 166,31 kg. The evaluation period was 70 days and
divided into three cycles. No significant differences were observed between
treatments for all variables studied. The mean daily weight gain was 0,229; 0,249;
and 0,357 kg / animal / day and the dry matter intake was 3,520; 3,460; and 4,180 kg
/ animal / day for treatments T1, T2 and T3 respectively.
