Leishmania infantum (chagasi) is transmitted by sandflies and causes visceral leishmaniasis (VL), considered a zoonosis of great importance for public health. The diagnosis of VL has been facing great challenges. In order to discover tests with high sensitivity and specificity, especially when it comes to equines, since for these animals there are still no standardized tests. This work aims to identify the infection by Leishmania infantum of horses in the municipality of Araguaína - TO. For this purpose, blood samples of 165 horses were collected and tested through the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Direct Agglutination Test (DAT). Serum of 165 horses were tested in the ELISA, where 29 animals (17.6%) were antigen-reactive and 10 (6.1%) were undetermined. In the DAT cut-off (1: 200) all positives in the first dilution of screening (1:40) and all the undetermined reagents in the ELISA were tested in a total of 61 samples, with two positive equines (3,3%). It is concluded the existence of infection by Leishmania infantum of horses of Araguaína-TO.
