Brucellosis is an anthropozoonosis of great importance in animal husbandry and public health, as human disease goes along with animal disease. This disease is caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella spp. and has an occupational character. In most states of the Brazilian confederation, human brucellosis does not have compulsory notification, so its incidence is little known and is considered a neglected disease. However, in Tocantins it is compulsory notification due to its importance in the region. The present study aimed to review human brucellosis, as well as to decrease, identify and characterize the possible factors associated with human brucellosis in the region of Araguaína-TO, by analyzing the notification/investigation forms of patients treated in the city in the period from 2010 to 2016. Of the 636 files analyzed during the study, 44 (6.91%) were confirmed cases for the disease, 59.1% were residents in the municipality of Araguaína and 40.9% from other locations. The mean incidence rate was 2.3 cases over the period and the age group of 21-40 years was the most affected (8.5% CI = 5.3% - 11.5%), with mean age of 36 years and male predominance. Refrigerators were six times more likely to be infected than other professions. The most common forms of transmission were contact with the B19 and / or Rb51 vaccine and contact with infected tissues, secretions and / or animals. Malaise, weakness, headache, sweating and weight loss were the most frequent signs and symptoms observed in patients and the associations of doxycycline and rifampicin, and doxycycline and getamycin were the main therapeutic choices used in patients during the period. It is concluded that human brucellosis presents as an important zoonosis in the region, due to the presence of positivity in all the years of the study. The information obtained in this research allowed greater knowledge of the characteristics of the human disease; however, the need for more epidemiological studies in the population is well known, in order to know the true scenario of the disease in the country.
