The objective of this research was to investigate the place of gender in power
relations in the Tocantins Penitentiary System, from the perspective of the penal
police officers of that state. It was proposed to understand to what extent power
relations are mediated by gender issues and to identify possible situations of
subordination, silencing contempt for the work of these police officers. For such an
undertaking, a relationship was established between the concepts of gender, as a
category of analysis, from the perspective of radical feminism, also considering the
intersectionality of gender identified by intersectional feminism, with the speeches of
female police officers. Oral history was chosen, as it is a method that considers the
subjectivity of the speeches and enables the understanding of some variables
intrinsic to the audience that was investigated, thus enabling a greater understanding
of the perceptions and structures underlying the narratives. The research results
point to the finding that, despite the presence of women in public security being a
reality, the corporation in question reproduces the perspective of the fragility and
subordination of women in the daily work, reproducing structural machismo.
