Resumo:
This research provides a discursive framework regarding the situation, trajectories, and territorial struggles of male and female artisanal fishermen and fisherwomen in the municipality of Tocantinópolis (TO) and the surrounding region, as well as their social organization. It addresses the impacts of major projects on the Brazilian energy production model and the challenges faced by traditional fishing communities. Furthermore, it discusses the environmental and social impacts stemming from these projects. The analysis also focuses on the forms of trade union and associative articulation led by Fishermen's Colony Z-7, emphasizing its role as a space for struggle and social organization among workers. The main objective was to comprehend the practice of artisanal fishing by traditional fishing communities in Tocantinópolis (TO), including their history, social organization, and development. The study examined the impacts of major projects such as the construction of hydroelectric dams and the challenges faced in preserving ways of life and natural resources. The importance of territory, practices, and knowledge of traditional fishing communities in the municipality of Tocantinópolis (TO) and the surrounding region was emphasized, highlighting the shared exchange of empirical knowledge and subsistence and commercial production. Finally, the relevance of territory, practices, and knowledge of traditional artisanal fishermen in Tocantinópolis (TO) was investigated, exploring their socio-spatial trajectories, territory, and acquired knowledge related to this activity. The preservation of the memory and cultural heritage of the local fishing community was stressed, as well as the need for documentary records to ensure the transmission of this knowledge to future generations. The recognition and preservation of the territories of traditional fishing communities are crucial for fair and sustainable development, relying on the balance and harmony of nature. Considering the social and environmental impacts in projects affecting these communities is fundamental. Preserving the memory, culture, and traditional practices strengthens collective identity and the survival of these communities in Tocantinópolis (TO) and the Middle Tocantins.
