This study proposed to construct interpretative keys about the orders of gender and
sexuality in the political agenda of the Brazilian extreme right during the years 2010 to 2020,
through the audiovisual analysis of Plataforma Brasil Paralelo. By going through the ideological
fronts of ongoing neofascist trends, we highlight the protagonism of the “gender ideology
device” articulated with the spectrum of anticommunism, as well as the centrality of the
heteronormative family as an elementary institution in the neoconservative and neoliberal
architecture of the extreme right. To this end, it sought to identify the re-updating of the
dynamics of oppression, exploitation and domination sedimented in the Brazilian socio-
historical trajectory triggered in the defense of the homeland, morals and family by the
neoconservative offensive; understand the articulation of the neoliberalization of the economy
and the moralizing agendas of gender and sexuality in the ideological and political repertoire
of the extreme right, especially in the Plataforma Brasil Paralelo (BP); and reflect on the
ideological centrality of the family in the narratives produced by the Brazilian extreme right,
through BP. In order to understand the political, economic and ideological plots, in the light of
critical dialectical guidance, qualitative approach and content analysis, we analyzed 12
audiovisual productions chosen by the intersection with the debate on gender, race/ethnicity,
sexuality, family, new right, extreme right and Brazilian social formation. Surfing the digital
environment, the documentary series of Plataforma Brasil Paralelo play a crucial role in the
construction of narratives, the creation of images and stereotypes, the seduction and
legitimization of behaviors, the definition of forms of social belonging, the formation of
opinions and the dissemination of values and ideologies. With this theoretical-methodological
investigation, we found that the extreme right disputes a certain intellectuality, fostering an
editorial body to support its political defenses, through the dispute over the meaning of what it
intends to destroy. Human rights, in particular, appear as a field of tensions and conflicts, to the
extent that it is appropriated by the Brazilian extreme right, which disputes, empties and distorts
its historical meaning. In their productions, they re-update the figure of the hero of the Brazilian
nation, deny history and consequently reparation policies, especially for women, black people,
indigenous people and LGBTI+. To conclude, we understand that the neoconservative offensive
and the extreme right-wing offensive registered in other parts of the world acquire
particularities of our socio-historical formation that prefigure a colonial and heteronormative
nation, with a slave base and peripheral and dependent capitalism. The visibility and
persecutory capillarity of gender and sexuality issues in the current historical period are related
to the spread of extreme right movements in Brazil, through militancy around the fallacious
“gender ideology” and the narrow promotion of the “family” integrating government policy. |
