This work addresses the question of how backyards reveals themselves to be spaces of knowledge and traditional practices.. Specifically, it describes the experiences of cultivation and use of medicinal plants found in the backyards of residents of the municipality of Teresina de Goiás. In this municipality, there are « ethnic specialists » who share their wisdom in order to promote collective health care. From an ethnobotanical point of view, the research carried out a survey of the popular name of medicinal plants grown in the investigated backyards, as well as their uses and relevance to the community. The methodology used in this study is
qualitative, including field research and interviews with residents of the municipality in question. It is worth mentioning that this theme is of interest to Educação do Campo, since it has been discussed by social movements, among them the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) responsible for holding meetings and producing documents regarding the health of rural populations. In addition, the movement wants traditional knowledge to be recognized and appreciated as frontline medical care for rural populations, emphasizing that preventive care is paramount, as is the promotion of well-being and respect
for cultural differences linked to the reinforcement of unconventional health practices. |
