Resumo:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of elderly people participating in the Universidade da Maturidade (UMA) in the North of Tocantins. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with elderly people (≥ 60 years old), without cognitive decline, participants of UMA in Tocantinópolis-TO, TO, enrolled in the 2023.2 semester. Data collection occurred with the application of the following questionnaires: 1) questionnaire with sociodemographic data; 2) Mini-Mental State Examination; 3) Quality of life assessment instruments using WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD. The data were subjected to descriptive and inferential analysis. 100 elderly people were evaluated and it was observed that 60% were female and 40% male, with a greater predominance in the age group of 60 to 79 years. In relation to the quality of life domains of the WHOQOL-BREF, the highest average was in the “social relationships” domain with 14.21 (±1.74), the “physical” domain had the lowest average with 13.34 (±1 ,64). In the instrument, WHOQOL-OLD, the facet with the highest score was “intimacy” with 15.43 (±2.36) and the lowest score was “death and dying” with 8.95 (±4.51), differentiating only in the female gender which was the “functioning of the senses” facet (8.75±2.06) and in males it was “death and dying” (7.43±3.96). The quality of life domains did not differ in relation to sex, with the ones that obtained the highest averages being: social relationships and intimacy, there was only a difference in relation to the lowest score on the WHOQOL-OLD. The relevance of quality of life assessment to contribute to the effectiveness of programs, such as UMA, is demonstrated, identifying the group's need for what needs to be better worked on and highlighting the need to include actions aimed at promoting the promotion of health and quality of life of the researched group.
