In Brazil, rivers are the main sources of clean drinkable water. Considering that, these
resources are highly exposed to many different human interferences. This have been
affecting both its availability and quality. Facing this situation urges the necessity of
having tools and management instruments pointing in an efficient and objective way to the
protection and sustainable use of this heritage. In Brazil, the law 9.433 from 1997
establishes the management tools for strengthening the multiple uses of these resources;
among these instruments, we have the class framework that considers current and future
uses. However, for doing a framework it is necessary, above all, determine the quality of
these hydric resources, but this is hard and expensive. Facing these conditions the indexes
arose and they can communicate with a high number of information in a brief and
accessible way. In this work, index was used as instrument for assessment of conformity
of quality of water São João River in Porto Nacional – Brazil to the framing. For this
purpose, the water quality was monitored in three site through analysis of physical,
chemical and biological parameters according to APHA (1995) standard. The
methodological process also includes an identification of uses, photographic records and
on-site visit held in 2015 and 2016. The results showed that, for the specific case of São
João River, we could see WQICCME describes in a holistic and suitable way the water
quality; and has evidenced being a good tool for monitoring and evaluating when it comes
to framework. |
