The dissertation addresses the role of the Municipal Public Power in supporting women victims of domestic violence, focusing on the activities of the municipality of Palmas – TO. Domestic and family violence against women is defined by law as any action or omission based on gender that causes death, injury, physical, sexual or psychological suffering, moral or property damage. Law 11,340, known as the Maria da Penha Law, aims to ensure that all women, regardless of class, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income, culture, educational level, age and religion, enjoy fundamental rights and live without violence. Despite the advances provided by this law, which include the visibility of victims and the provision of urgent protective measures, there are still significant gaps in the support and protection of victims after reporting, especially due to the financial and emotional dependence on the aggressors. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a drastic increase in cases of domestic violence, highlighting the need to evaluate the effectiveness of the measures adopted by public authorities to contain this growth. This case study analyzes the support mechanisms for victims currently existing in the municipality of Palmas, examining their effectiveness and identifying possible weaknesses. The research used a qualitative approach, involving document analysis, interviews with professionals in the field and bibliographical research. The results indicate that, although there are public policies aimed at supporting victims, there is a need for improvements in the coordination between different services and the strengthening of support networks. It is concluded that a more integrated and humanized service can significantly contribute to breaking the cycle of violence and building a fairer and safer society, through the appreciation and training of professionals who provide this service.
