This paper presents a brief history of Boolean algebra and how it can be applied
for the automation of digital machines and systems. For this, it was shown with Socrates,
Plato and Aristotle, the origin of the Law of thought that founded the studies of George Boole,
then is presented, in a simple way, the development of the language proper of Boolean algebra
with the use of logical variables 0 and 1, the logical connectives, the properties that generate
the Boolean functions, the logic gates that describe the commands through logic circuits and
examples of the use of Boolean algebra in day-to-day situations.
To show the simplicity and effectiveness of Boolean algebra, a hereditary
sequence was adopted with explanations and step-by-step demonstrations of the basis of its
development, seeking a better presentation that allows the reader to traverse the whole
sequence without losing understanding about Boolean logic. The paper also presents how
George Boole's desire to describe a human thought as a mathematical equation has
transformed the law of thought into algebra, algebra in Logical Circuits, logical circuits in
commands that allow digital machines and systems to execute preprogrammed actions and
how these actions are applied in digital machines and systems. |
