Resumo:
The semiconductor industry is responsible for manufacturing the fundamental components for modern technology. These components are essential for the operation of electronic devices such as computers, smartphones, automobiles, solar panels, and communication systems. Additionally, this industry segment drives technological innovation, economic growth, and promotes global competitiveness. Therefore, given the importance of this sector to the global economy and aiming to justify the need for domestic investments to foster the semiconductor industry ecosystem in Brazil, this study has the following objectives: a) to provide a clear and precise explanation of the concept of semiconductors and emphasize their fundamental importance to the economy; b) to identify and analyze the current global and national landscape of the semiconductor industry; and c) to evaluate the economic impact resulting from large-scale state investments in the semiconductor industry ecosystem in Brazil. Thus, the study sought to answer the possible economic impacts resulting from state investments directed towards large-scale semiconductor production in Brazil. To do so, a methodological, descriptive, and quantitative approach was employed. The Leontief input-output matrix was used as the main tool, which is a mathematical method capable of enabling an intersectoral analysis of direct and indirect impacts on the economy. The results revealed a considerable increase in Gross Value of Production (GVP) and production absorption in the Construction and Manufacturing sectors, highlighting the strategic importance of these sectors and the multiplier effect of investments in the semiconductor industry. In light of these findings, it has become crucial to recognize the role of the State in creating and maintaining a favorable ecosystem for the semiconductor industry. Public policies, research and development incentives, strategic partnerships, investments in technological infrastructure, and specialized workforce training are essential to foster and sustain the semiconductor industry ecosystem in Brazil.
