This work was carried out in the municipality of Juruti/PA, with the objective of
identifying the type of mining practiced in the exploitation of clay, specifically red
ceramic, raw material used in the manufacture of ceramic bricks and the carrying out
of tests to verify the quality of the bricks following the determinations of NBR
15.270/2017. In order to achieve the two proposed objectives, the methodological
procedures were developed in 05 stages that included visits to construction material
stores, technical visits to the potteries in the municipality of Juruti and the community
of Vila Socorro - Santarém/PA, visits to the clay mining processes , sample collection,
visual, geometric, physical and compression tests and finally the analysis of results
obtained in the field and in laboratory tests. It has been identified that the exploitation
of clay occurs by open pit mining of the wet type, through the mining of Placers, by the
dredging mechanism by floating navigation, the mining takes place in the bed of the
Amazon River. The tested ceramic bricks were approved in terms of their geometry,
there was disapproval of some batches in terms of visual and physical aspects
concerning the moisture absorption index.
