Mining in Pará has been growing and consolidating itself nationally, where it is currently
responsible for the second-largest mineral production. It is known that the state is part of the
Amazon region, where environmental issues become more relevant due to the existing
biodiversity. In this context, it is necessary to evaluate which measures the mining companies
with the highest productivity in the region have taken to mitigate climate change. Having
several relations with climate change, mining contributes to its increase while being essential
for creating a decarbonized economy. Given the complexity of the subject, this work aimed to
survey, through a literature review, the most critical climate change mitigation and adaptation
measures adopted by mining companies Vale, Alcoa, and Norsk Hydro operating in the state
of Pará. It is possible to observe the growing interest of companies in decarbonizing their
operations and seeking sustainable solutions, of which we highlight the development of
HalZero, ELYSIS and Trolley-Assist technologies. |
