Men’s health is a topic that is gaining space for discussion in several scientific fields in recent years in the word and in Brazil. Prostate cancer is the second most common and the second that most kills men in Brazil. Men die more compared to women because of preventable health problems, which would consequently reduce deaths and illness in the male population. The main objective of the work was to identify the main barriers that generate impacts on preventiveself-care against prostate cancer through an integrative literature review. Therefore, we soughtto verify the factors that contribute to the non-performance of preventive self-care among men.An integrative literature review (ILR) was carried out with a qualitative approach and descriptive characterization. From this point of view, attitudes of the male universe regarding self-care motivated by sociocultural and gender barriers and barriers in the health services favorthe high rates of incidence and morbidity and mortality in this population. The results indicatethat the main harmful barriers to the practice of self-care among men are based on socioculturalfactors, gender and health services. Some prevalent themes emerged, such as excessive dedication to work to prove masculinity in society and the general precariousness of health services for male population. The lack of self-care among men should not be reduced to just opinion, tantrums or prejudice, but to understand that there is a negative external influence thatfalls on men and this impacts their attitudes and way of thinking when taking care ofthemselves.
