Resumo:
Environmental issues became more important in international fora since the 1960s, when countries began to worry about the extent to which deforestation and environmental degradation had been taking place, with the Stockholm Conference pioneering. The conferences held in the last few decades have highlighted the issues that most needed attention, with emphasis on global warming, deforestation and depletion of natural resources, in particular the case of water scarcity on the planet. Water is considered a fundamental element for the survival of living beings; however, in the last decades, with the pollution of rivers and oceans, it has become an increasingly scarce resource. Because of this, the preservation of water resources has become one of the main subjects in debate in the international conferences on environment, where it was tried to discuss public policies with the intention of avoiding its degradation. The Amazon, being the largest river - in volume - of freshwater in the world, is also inserted in these debates when it comes to preservation. The Amazon Basin is considered one of the largest basins in the world, covering seven countries with more than 6,000,000 km². This monograph aims to study the cooperation projects in the region,, highlighting their importance in the international arena, as well as the importance of the project for the livelihood and survival of communities living along the river banks
