Given the country's peculiarities regarding the accelerated and unplanned urbanization process, as well as the remarkable diversity that characterizes its municipalities, it is relevant to analyze how managers and legislators have understood the characteristics and needs of smart and sustainable cities in the country. In this way, the work aimed to map the current legislation on the subject in municipalities with more than 50 thousand inhabitants in Brazil and subsequent categorization and analysis of them. A total of 125 norms were found, of which 59 were categorized as norms to promote some of the dimensions of smart and sustainable cities, 44 as norms that deal with guidelines for the implementation of the model of smart and sustainable cities, 13 as norms that establish programs that reinforce the consolidation of some of the dimensions, 08 as norms that regulate a smart and sustainable city, strictly and 01 as the ratification of the contracts signed between the State of Maranhão and China Brazil Xinnenghuan International Investment Co., Ltd CBSTeel, to building a smart and sustainable city. The analysis of the entire content of these norms made it possible to prepare a text on the most relevant aspects dealt with, as well as descriptive statistics and the main points of similarities and divergences present in the normative contents. It was found that in recent years, legislative proposals on the subject have become more common, demonstrating an effort by federative units and municipalities to anticipate the Union in the search for regulatory options to standardize principles and guidelines in order to govern their programs and smart and sustainable city projects. Cidades Inteligentes e Sustentáveis são municípios que oferecem aos seus habitantes melhor qualidade de vida em razão de arranjos tecnológicos, políticos e de infraestrutura, simbolizando uma estratégia atual para a sustentabilidade urbana quando as projeções da Organização das Nações Unidas para o ano de 2050 indicam que a população urbana representará 92% do total no Brasil. Diante das peculiaridades do país no tocante ao processo de urbanização acelerada e sem planejamento, bem como à diversidade marcante que caracteriza seus municípios, faz-se relevante analisar como os gestores e legisladores têm compreendido as características e as necessidades de cidades inteligentes e sustentáveis no país. Desta forma este trabalho tem como objetivo mapear as legislações vigentes sobre o tema em municípios com mais de 50 mil habitantes no Brasil e posterior categorização e análise das mesmas. Foi encontrado um total de 125 normas sendo que destas, 59 foram categorizadas como normas de fomento de alguma das dimensões de cidades inteligentes e sustentáveis, 44 como normas que tratam de diretrizes para a implantação do modelo de cidades inteligentes e sustentáveis, 13 como normas que instituem programas que reforçam a consolidação de alguma das dimensões, 8 como normas que regulamentam uma cidade inteligente e sustentável, estritamente e 1 como a ratificação dos contratos assinados entre o Estado do Maranhão e a China Brazil Xinnenghuan International Investment Co., Ltd - CBSTeel, para a construção de uma cidade inteligente e sustentável. A análise do inteiro teor dessas normas possibilitou elaborar texto sobre os aspectos mais relevantes tratados, assim como estatísticas descritivas e os principais pontos de semelhanças e divergências presentes nos conteúdos normativos.
