The sedimentary fill of the basin is approximately of 1,500 m thick, with ages from the Lower Miocene to Pliocene. In this study, taxonomic and morphometric geometric analysis of ostracods, unknowed until now, from various sections in the basin allowing to identify 4 genera and 11 species: Cyprideis (8 species, 4 described as new); Limnocythere (1 species?), Alicenula (1 species) and Heterocypris (1 species). In the northern of the section, greater abundance and diversity of Cyprideis represented by endemic species, make the term Cyprideis flock of El Descanso Basin apropriated, as proposed here. The endemism of Cyprideis is typical in long-lived lake (ancient lake). The analysis of sieve pores in Cyprideis indicates that the conditions of the ancient lake were freshwater. The occurrence of Limnocythere and Alicenula to the top of this section may indicate depth variation of this paleolake. In the central and southern sections, the presence of genus Heterocypris is associated to temporary lakes and ponds. The possible relationship between the changes in the ostracofauna with paleogeographic and/or paleoclimatic implications is discussed. Recent palynological and isotopic researches suggest that the rise of Andean Plateu causes abrupt climate changes in the Upper Miocene to Pliocene in the studied area. This assemblage of stable and temporary lakes and the radiation event of Cyprideis in the basin are probably related to these climatic changes. The occurrence of the flock of Cyprideis species of El Descanso Basin and the coincidence with the decline of the Miocene Cyprideis flock of western Amazon seems to correspond to these tectonic and climatic events. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior A bacia Descanso-Yauri é uma bacia do tipo intra-montanhosa localizada no sul do Peru, entre o Altiplano e a Cordilheira Ocidental dos Andes Centrais, a mais de 4.000 metros de altitude. O preenchimento sedimentar da bacia tem aproximadamente 1.500 m de espessura, com idades desde o Mioceno Inferior até o Plioceno. A análise taxonômica e morfométrica geométrica das populações de ostracodes, até agora desconhecidas do intervalo Mio-Plioceno, e em diferentes seções ao longo desta bacia, permitiu identificar 4 gêneros e 11 espécies: Cyprideis (8 espécies, 4 descritas como novas); Limnocythere (1 espécie?), Alicenula (1 espécie) e Heterocypris (1 espécie). Na seção Norte, a presença de Cyprideis se destaca pela maior abundância e diversidade, representada por espécies endêmicas, se propondo o termo flock de espécies de Cyprideis da Bacia El Descanso. A presença de endemismo em Cyprideis é típico em corpos lacustres estáveis por longo período de existência (ancient lake). A ocorrência de Limnocythere e Alicenula para o topo desta seção pode indicar uma variação na profundidade deste lago. Nas seções centrais e sul, a presença monogenérica de Heterocypris evidencia presença de lagos temporários. A análise de porocanais normais em Cyprideis indica que as condições do ancient lake eram dulcícolas. A possibilidade da relação das mudanças da ostracofauna com as implicações paleogeográficas e/ou paleoclimáticas são discutidas. Pesquisas recentes na bacia, com dados palinológicos e isotópicos, sugerem bruscas mudanças climáticas que tem uma relação direta com o soerguimento do plateau andino Norte (Mioceno Superior-Plioceno). A associação de lagos estáveis e temporários, e, provavelmente a radiação de Cyprideis na bacia, podem estar relacionadas a estas mudanças.
