Participants were exposed to four experimental conditions that differed only as the order of presentation of the rules. Were presented to participants rules describing minimal justifications (JMI), monetary justification (JMO), social justification (JSO) and monetary justification more social justification (JMO + SO). The rules always describing two options for response, with different response cost: a greater response effort (EFCFCE) and another with less response effort (EFC). The rule with a minimal justification (JMI) had no justification for issuing any sequence. The other rules presented justifications for issuing a sequence of higher cost (EFCFCE). The results showed that 80% of the participants have chosen sequence higher cost (EFCFCE) when exposed to rules with justifications (JMO; JSO; JMO+SO). And 75% of participants chose sequence of lower cost (EFC) when exposed to rule with minimal justification (JMI). It is concluded that effects of rule-following is due, in part, to the formal properties of the rules. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior O presente estudo investigou os efeitos de regras que relatam justificativas sobre o seguimento de regras. 12 estudantes universitários foram expostos a um procedimento de escolha segundo o modelo; a tarefa consistia em apontar para cada um dos três estímulos de comparação. Os participantes foram expostos a 4 Condições experimentais que diferiam somente quanto a ordem de apresentação das regras. Foram apresentadas aos participantes regras que relatavam uma justificativa mínima (JMI), justificativa monetária (JMO), justificativa social (JSO) e justificativa monetária mais social (JMO+SO). As regras sempre especificavam duas opções de resposta, uma de baixo custo (EFC) e outra de alto custo (EFCFCE). A Regra com uma justificativa mínima (JMI) não apresentava justificativa para a emissão de qualquer sequência e as demais regras apresentavam justificativas para a emissão da sequência de maior custo (EFCFCE). Os resultados mostraram que 80% dos participantes optaram pela sequência de maior custo (EFCFCE) quando expostos a regras que relatavam justificativas para esta sequência. E 75% dos participantes optaram pela sequência de menor custo (EFC) quando expostos a regra que relatava justificativa mínima (JMI).
