Resumo:
This research aims to examine the role of the Programs REUNI, PARFOR, UAB and PROUNI in the expansion process of vacancies in higher education in Marajó, from 2009 to 2013, from higher education institutions, public and/or private, hosted in the municipality of Breves, that polarizes in Marajó at least eight municipalities. The theoretical basis of the research consists of studies that approach the human development process provided by the expansion of access to higher education in low HDI regions. To achieve the research objectives, it was applied a qualitative and exploratory methodology of survey and analysis of primary and secondary data obtained through desk study on various data bases, and systematic observation of the organizational environment of higher education institutions in the municipality of Breves. This information was crossed to the census data and to the targets set for the programs surveyed, contextualizing the current landscape for expanding the access to the university education in Marajó. The results demonstrate the characteristics of the implementation of PDE programs in Marajó, identifying the importance, limitations and institutional development possibilities of higher education in Marajó
