To include the reader into this discussion the studies produced in Brazil and into the Amazon context are approached, taking novels characterized as Bildungsroman in therms of formation or education. In the second place the study is about the structural form of the novel related to narrator,plot, time and space. Brings the possibility of lecture of the Hatoum‘s novel starting with the point of formation. This study brings also the reception of the novel, emphasizing the memorialistic aspect point by the critic. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior O presente estudo apresenta a obra Cinzas do Norte (2005), do escritor Milton Hatoum, à luz do conceito de Bildungsroman (romance de formação). Primeiramente, observa-se o que R.Selbmann (1994) considera a ―instância obrigatória‖ de um romance de formação, a presença da formação (escolar e/ou profissional). Para situar o leitor no âmbito da discussão sobre o romance de formação, são discutidos os estudos produzidos no Brasil e no contexto amazônico sobre obras que se caracterizam como um romance de formação/educação. No segundo momento o estudo desdobra-se sobre a forma estrutural do romance no que diz respeito ao narrador, enredo, tempo e espaço. Visualiza a possibilidade de leitura da obra de Hatoum, a partir da temática da formação. O estudo traz ainda a recepção da obra, ressaltando o aspecto memorialístico apontado pela crítica.
