Since the 1960s we have witnessed the rising in scientific interest and speculation regarding narratives, their structure and functions. Taking oral, written and visual forms, narrative events contribute to the development, legitimation or rejection of attitudes and values for particular contexts, that is, they connect the subject to their culture. Our paper approaches visual narratives, in particular the ones produced by mass media, in order to define and characterize visual narratives as well as relate them to the anthropologic research. We have reviewed literature and, at the end, offer a brief analysis of TV series names The Night Shift as cultural artifact and the articulation of the ‘soldier’ and ‘doctor’ elements of identity regarding the main character. We have resourced to Bamberg (2010), Cihodariu (2012), Hartmann (2004, 2005), Labov (1997), Ochs (2004), Ochs e Capss (1996), Pimenta e Poovaiah (2010) and Travancas (2008) |
