The methodological procedure is guided by direct interviews, based on a prior knowledge of mythology Parakanã, checking how the facts are restated to be reconstructed orally, alternating events of the distant past. Preliminarily, it was concluded that collaborate in understanding these myths and the reworking permeated by myths reaffirms Parakanã identity. The importance of this study for literary studies is the record of this process that allows observing the construction of group identity and the affirmation of its otherness. Este artigo tem por objetivo demonstrar como este povo utiliza a mitologia para reelaborar e coompreender os acontecimentos contemporâneos a partir de seus referenciais, considerando o estudo e análise de entrevistas e o conhecimento sobre a mitologia dos Parakanã do sudeste do Pará. Para tanto, utilizaremos os conceitos de Silva (1995) que pontua fatos sobre o registro dos mitos indígenas da América, da psicologia analítica de Jung (1977) que estuda os mitos na construção dos arquétipos universais, e estudos nas áreas de Antropologia e Etnologia (SILVA, 2009; ALMEIDA-SILVA, EMIDIO-SILVA, 2005; FAUSTO, 2001; SANTOS, 1994; SANTOS, 1982; MAGALHÃES, 1985; ARNAUD, 1983; EMIDIO-SILVA, 1998; MILLER, 2001; GOSSO & OTTA, 2003; GOSSO, 1998) que possam corroborar com a discussão. O procedimento metodológico está pautado em entrevistas diretas, com base num prévio conhecimento da mitologia Parakanã, verificando como os fatos são reelaborados ao serem reconstruídos oralmente, intercalando acontecimentos de um passado distante. Preliminarmente, concluiu-se que os mitos colaboram na compreensão desses e que a reelaboração permeada pelos mitos reafirma a identidade Parakanã.
