Nowadays, in the normative grammar, the impersonal verbs are considered as verbs that are part of a clause with no subject. However, in the portuguese language gramaticography, at least untill the end of the XIX century, this concept was exactly the opposite: the impersonal verbs were defined as part of a clause with subject. This paper aims to reconstruct the path of the tradicional grammar in portuguese language and shows how the several notions of impersonal verbs were developed. Also, this research aims to try to indentify de turning point of the many notions involved in the impersonal verbs concept. |
