It is a case study, the methodology is based on two approaches: the synthesis of the literature and the fi eld work carried out over the past two decades. The research followed the following stages: state of the bibliographic art, fi eld work, focusing on direct observations, non-directive interviews with community members, local leaders, photographic archives, remote sensing and mapping. The main results show that the introduction of soybean in the municipality of Santarém, from 1996, led to deep territorial transformations, particularly for the communities lead into a territorial confl ict, faced with the expansion of the agricultural frontier. A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a expansão da fronteira agrícola e a disputa por territórios a partir da introdução da soja no Planalto de Santarém, Pará-Amazônia-Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo de caso, cuja metodologia de pesquisa está apoiada por duas dimensões: o levantamento bibliográfi co e trabalhos de campo realizados ao longo das duas últimas décadas. Objetivamente, a pesquisa seguiu os seguintes passos: levantamento bibliográfi co, documental e aplicação de técnicas de trabalho de campo, com destaque para registros de observações, conversas com temas livres e entrevistas envolvendo comunitários, lideranças locais, registros fotográfi cos, técnicas do sensoriamento remoto e georepresentações. Os principais resultados indicam que a introdução da soja no município de Santarém, a partir de 1996, impuseram profundas transformações territoriais ao município e, sobretudo, às comunidades compulsoriamente envolvidas nesse processo de disputas territoriais, frente à expansão da fronteira agrícola nas Amazônias Brasileiras.
